Who am I?

I’m Will. I live in Seattle. I was born in 1978. I love old video games, tacky antiques, horror, and tabletop RPGs.

What is this?

This blog is simply a collection of my thoughts on the various games that I happen to be playing through over time.

What type of games do I like?

I focus on 8 and 16-bit games, specifically one for the Nintendo Entertainment System/Famicom, Super Nintendo/Super Famicom, Genesis/Mega Drive, TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine, Master System, Game Boy, and Atari 2600. I’ve noticed that my favorite games tend to be action-platformers, action RPGs, and shooters.

What’s up with the pictures? They look kind of bad.

I know, right? Every gameplay image you see here was taken by me through the ultra-sophisticated method of pointing my phone’s camera at the screen and snapping away.

How do I play?

I’m all about physical media. Hell, I still rent VHS tapes from my neighborhood video store. My preference is always to play my games on real hardware as opposed to emulators. I’ll happily use EverDrives and other flash cartridges to play the pricier games that I can’t justify buying on the secondary market, though. I don’t use cheats, codes, or glitches when playing in order to get the full intended experience. I prefer to rely on the game’s original instruction manuals rather than online FAQs and walkthroughs, again with an eye toward being as authentic as possible. Remember: Winners don’t use save states.
